`` Flapper A Story Of Sex, Style, Celebrity, And The...
What comes to mind with the phrase, ââ¬Å"modern America?â⬠What are the relationships like? The style? They money-making business? How did it America get where it is today? Joshua Zeitz depicts how Americaââ¬â¢s society changed in the 1920s throughout his book, Flapper: A Madcap Story of Sex, Style, Celebrity, and the Women Who Made America Modern. Zeitz uses historical actors, specifically women, such as Coco Chanel and Kathleen Morrison, also known as Colleen Moore, to help redefine such changes into modern America in the ââ¬Ë20s. These female characters have also influenced current American culture and ideals. Coco Chanel was the woman who created the idea of self-definition and liberty through the use of oneââ¬â¢s clothes (Zeitz, 152). She had been raised as the athletic type and stepped out beyond the borders of the tight-fitting corset dress, and made her own sense of style. Chanel ignored the fact the she might be considered unpopular and stuck to how she wante d to dress and act. (Young Women Discuss Petting, 207). Surprisingly, Coco Chanelââ¬â¢s style in which she ââ¬Å"let go of the waistlineâ⬠flourished quickly and it was appealing to many (Zeitz, 154). She stepped away from the norm and sparked a light in America that ignited the idea to be who you are and stand out. Designs were created that were comfortable, but also stylish for the New Woman. Chanel kept designing clothing in which the ââ¬Å"hemlines dropped and waistlines crept upâ⬠(Zeitz, 284). A task like this would usually take me 10 minutes in the morning to do a cash count up and an hour in the afternoon in which I set myself from pm until pm to get this completed on Monday- Thursday. On a Friday however I set myself 2 hours (pm -? pm) as I have to go back over the week, input all outgoings on to the petty cash spreadsheet, calculate how much of our float we have spent and how much needs to be requested, make sure all figures equalize, photocopy everything so that the originals go to our head office and the photocopies stay in the centre for our records, package and get ready to send second class recorded to Head-Office that afternoon. Organ Trafficking free essay sample
Human trafficking and drug trafficking are familiar global issues fueled by criminals, the black market, and illegal businesses. Though most people are familiar with these illicit trades, organ trafficking is Just as much of a problem but not as commonly advertised. Organ trafficking is the illegal commercial sale of inner organs for transplants, and a worldwide issue with majority of these black market sales occurring in, but not limited to, countries struggling with poverty. There are multiple different ways that people acquire organs, whether it be a person selling their own rgans for a profit, a person being tricked into understanding they need their organ removed, or a person can be forced to have their organs removed for the use of sale. With the high demand for organs and such an insufficient supply, the costs are very high and this trade will continue to thrive. The most commonly trafficked organ is the kidney, which accounts for 10% of all worldwide transplants. We will write a custom essay sample on Organ Trafficking or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page A person can be paid 12,000 dollars for a kidney to be removed and used, but on the black market they can be sold for anywhere up to 0,000 to 60,000 dollars. With this type of profit, this illegal cartel becomes appealing to those in desperation for money. Clinics are set up illegally where a person can go get the surgery for their kidney and be paid for it. Although not always are organs removed voluntarily. Many different cases have been reported in the circumstance where a person was kidnapped and killed for their organs. A young british girl was taken to the hospital to be treated for dehydration, but after being given a shot the young girl instantly collapsed and died. Her organs were later removed and her parents were given the explanation that without them the doctors would be unable to record her death. In Belgrade, a young man was found dead in his apartment. At first the scene looked as though he died after overdosing on morphine, but after investigating further the police found that the scene had been staged, and the mans heart had been removed. They believed this to be the act of organ traffickers. These types of situations where people are selfish for money would only become more rominent if the an organ market was created. By establishing this market, it would create a loophole for human traffickers, and would exploit the poor by forcing the desperate for money to sell their body while the rich thrive off of it. More commonly than involuntary removal of organs, many people are very willing to give up whatever organs they can in return for money. A disabled mother in Spain was attempting to sell a lung, cornea, a piece of her liver, and kidneys in order to help pay her rent. In hospitals the donor recipient lists can be extremely long, and in some cases people dont have time to wait on that list to receive their organ. The drive for human survival is tenacious, why risk death when an organ transplant can be found online? If a person decides to have their organs removed or receive organs illegally, then that is their choice. It may not be legal, but it could save someones life. Situations like these may cause someone to ask the question of whether the market for human organs should be legalized. Family friends or good samaritans have donated organs in order to help loved ones, or even people they dont know, but it is no where near enough. By establishing an organ market not only would it cause the number of people turning to the blackmarket in desperation to live to decrease, but it would also enable those wanting to give up an organ for money a legal solution. If a person is able to sell their hair, semen, plasma, etc. then their ability to sell their organs should be no different.

The Relation between the two approaches JAD (Joint Application Development) and RAD (Rapid Application Development) helps to fully fi nish and provide a suitable result support by the information gathered. The combination of this approach gives a functional and effective specific period.Although the JAD and the RAD are very specific techniques, the main aspects of these methodologies should be used in all systems analysis and design projects. Free Essays on Causes Of The Civil War
The Civil War was caused by a myriad of conflicting pressures, principles, and prejudices, fueled by sectional differences and pride, and set into motion by a most unlikely set of political events. At the root of all of the problems was the institution of slavery, which had been introduced into North America in early colonial times. The American Revolution had been fought to validate the idea that all men were created equal, yet slavery was legal in all of the thirteen colonies throughout the revolutionary period. Although it was largely gone from the northern states by 1787, it was still preserved in the new Constitution of the United States, not only at the request of the Southern ones, but also with the approval of many of the Northern delegates who saw that there was still much money to be made in the slave trade by the Yankee shipping industry. At the Constitutional Convention there were arguments over slavery. Representatives of the Northern states claimed that if the Southern slaves were mere property, then they should not be counted toward voting representation in Congress. Southerners, placed in the difficult position of trying to argue, at least in this case, that the slaves were human beings, eventually came to accept the three-fifths compromise, by which five slaves counted as three free men toward that representation. By the end of the convention the institution of slavery itself, though never specifically mentioned, was well protected within the body of the Constitution. It seemed to many that slavery was on its way out. It was becoming increasingly expensive to keep slaves in the agrarian society of the south. Northern and Southern members of Congress voted together to abolish the importation of slaves from overseas in 1808, but the domestic slave trade continued to flourish. The invention of the cotton gin made the cultivation of cotton on large plantations using slave labor a profitable enterprise in the South. Slav... Free Essays on Causes Of The Civil War The Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1877, was mainly caused by the diverging society between the North and the South. The North and the South had different goals. There were many factors that led to the war and the chief ones were political and economic differences between the North and the South. The Northââ¬â¢s aggression to control the South had led to the point where it was intolerable. The issue on slavery was one of the causes of the Civil War. Slavery and slave trades had become a big part of the Southââ¬â¢s economy. The slaves were needed to work on plantations which helped the South prospered. During the 19th Century, the North worked hard on abolishing slavery that they thought was a disgrace to the Union. Compromises were proposed working toward an end to slavery. One of the compromises was the Missouri Compromise that made Maine, a free state, and Missouri, a slave state, excluded slavery from Louisiana Territory and everything above the 36à ° 30ââ¬â¢ north latitude. Other compromises such as the Compromise of 1850 did please both sides. The Compromise included admitting California as a free state and interstate slave trade to be abolished which went in favor of the North. The Compromise also went with the South when it included stricter fugitive slave laws and New Mexico and Utah were created without slave restrictions. A book called, "Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabin" was also published at this time emphasizing the evils of slavery. This added tension between the North and the South. The compromises seemed to have settled the issue of slavery but it was just putting back the problem. The North and the South were far from settling the slave issue. Another reason that caused the South to go to war was the difference in economic policies. The North was expanding more in the commercial and industrial side while the South was reliant on agriculture. Cities and factories had developed in the North and in the South; it was still staple producin...

Big-small dreams Essay
Big-small dreams Essay I have a question for you, a question that, to be honest, is quite intimidating. A question of thought ââ¬â which way of thinking is better, dreaming big or being satisfied with small thoughts? Is it problematic to have expectations and to be afraid of failure? Or to have no expectations and simply except failure. Can dreamimg big be even more harmful than being unambitious. My whole life I expected myself to perform, to perform in the classroom, on the sports field and generally in all my endeavours. I didnt want to be your typical A-student type huge, but world-renowned huge. I probably had some predisposition to think so, because I was a fairly talented kid and worked adroitly at school, achieving the goals I set our for myself. Over time, however, my motivation turned into something unhealthy. I started believing that I was entitled to success, and I grew more and more frustrated as I faced the real world. Well, the truth is I didnââ¬â¢t face it a lot until arriving in grade 10, where my safe bubble of success was going to be popped. The first ominous sign came when I didnââ¬â¢t get anywhere close to a perfect score for a maths test. I received a respective score, but it wasnt up to my expectation. Which seems pretty logical now as the work load grew and heightened in difficulty, which proved to be an impediment to my progress. The pitfall, however, came soon after, when I received a failing grade in an Afrikaans test, a subject I absolutely loathed. I started to feel like a failure. Now you are probably wondering, ââ¬Å"What does it have to do with dreaming big?â⬠Hereââ¬â¢s my answer: I always dreamt big, and this made me overlook tiny successes and feel entitled for admiration and victory. I believe you can guess what happened next. I grew more and more frustrated, as I realized you had to work, and most often, work hard and long, to achieve what you wanted. You even had to withstand failure and overlook your losses ââ¬â something I was not used to dealing with at all. The only opinion I had about failures is that they diminished my previous accomplishments, and my value as a person, and that successful people never have to deal with failure, or the fiendish feeling that comes along with it. Dreaming big is good, it helps a person set far-reaching goals and aim to do bold things. But it can only work if a person has healthy relationships with failure, tryouts and taking tiny steps. Success scarcely comes overnight. For most of us it takes years to achieve, but no one wants to mention those years ââ¬â they are a boring time of exhausting, plain and continuous hard work and dedication. Sounds bad enough for a movie, right? Donââ¬â¢t teach anyone to just dream big ââ¬â teach them to dream big while taking small steps. And remember, success will not find you, thats why its up to you to find it.

The Four-Firm Concentration Ratio Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The Four-Firm Concentration Ratio - Essay Example Eventually, the excess demand would be met and the price would again gain equilibrium. The long run plans in this situation would be undertaken to maintain minimum long-range average cost. Increasing production in the short run may increase marginal cost. Long range plans would again bring these under control. The relatively low concentration level dictates that firms make plans and take actions based on the market, as no one of them can become a price maker. The market will set the price. In the case where there are 20 firms with a four-firm CR of 80%, the firms would act differently. With fewer firms controlling a greater market share, they may be slower to react to the increase in demand. They may maximize profits by operating inefficiently. This may involve collusion either through agreements (price fixing) or a de facto situation where no producer wants to upset the pricing (Gilligan 2002). Prices would stay high until one of the firms, or an entrant, took action to fill the increased demand. Concentration in an industry or sector can be, according to Gilligan (2002), "... a reward for being successful". Firms that produce the best products at the lowest cost will naturally come to dominate a market. Barriers to entry can also result in a high concentration ratio when new entrants are barred. ... A firm that has a dominant position in a market may be a price leader. Since they control the only supply, they can set the price. This will usually result in operating inefficiently. They will produce fewer units at a higher cost and much greater price. This will maximize their profits. In a contestable market, the dominant firm will have to remain competitive even though they may have no competitors. If there are no barriers to entry, and the cost of entry is low, the dominant firm must sell at an equilibrium price to keep new entrants from competing. If they raise the price, new firms will enter the market and sell at a lower price. This will force the price back down and the new entrant will then exit the market if there are no barriers to exit. The Purpose of Anti-Trust Legislation Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, contends that, "We do not have a monopoly. We have market share" (cited in BrainyQuote 2007). In fact, the case against Microsoft was never about being a monopoly. It was about how they became and maintained a monopoly status. The original intent of anti-trust legislation, and indeed its only purpose, "is to promote economic efficiency" (Scott et al. 1998). Promoting economic efficiency dictates that the market must be a place of free competition. Collusion, coercion, and manipulation that places a competitor at a disadvantage reduces market efficiency. From the years 1990 - present, Microsoft has engaged in numerous activities whose sole purpose was to limit competition and place obstacles in the path of competitors (U.S. v. Microsoft 2002). Monopolies are not always illegal and big is not always bad. It is the collusion with vendors and suppliers in an effort to make it
